Domestic animals have fewer numbers and types of cones than humans which limits their color spectrum. Dogs lack green cones which causes them to confuse red and green and have difficulty differentiating among colors in the middle of this wavelength. Cats also have diminished color vision, but they can distinguish between two colors if they differ greatly and if the objects are large.
